In this business everyone likes to claim to be first. Nearly all our competitors will at some point claim that they were involved at the beginning with BT’s interactive TV trials (we actually were.) Likewise although others may claim precedence, ASDA’s extended retail service really is the first full-serve grocery shopping service on Sky Active. In fact it is the first of its kind on interactive TV anywhere in the UK.
The project was immensely challenging given the sheer size of the product offering (around 11,000 lines) and the relative inflexibility of a remote control as an interaction device when compared to a keyboard and mouse. Our experience and understanding of the strengths and limitations of the Sky Active platform made us key members of the development team and enabled us to advise on navigational and interaction issues, resulting in a simple, intuitive interface and straightforward customer experience.
